January Beauty Purchases & Mini reviews

I've vowed to be a little bit better with my makeup this year. Whilst I am still not very good, or have the time to do a full face of makeup (seriously ladies, I don't know how you do it every day!), I have had a little bit of a browse in Boots and picked up a few things - some good and some bad!

1. Rimmel BB Cream

I have been looking for a BB Cream for a while, just because I have quite a lot of redness but didn't want to wear a heavy foundation all day as I'm worried that it will just make my skin worse. I was expecting the texture to be lighter, but it is very thick. It does cover the redness though and evens out my skin tone. In terms of staying power, it does okay, but if I have a long day on campus, I'll usually have to reapply. It also makes my skin look oily when it starts to come off,  But, it has SPF in it, and makes me feel better about wearing this than foundation. I bought Light, as Very Light was too pale for me. I think that Light it a little bit darker than my skin tone, but hopefully it looks okay!

2. Soap and Glory Supercat Eyeliner

I love liquid eyeliner but I am not good at it at all! I had a look on twitter and there were so many people raving about this. But I have to say I was a little disappointed. The pen is very similar in shape to the Collection eyeliner. Whilst it was a little easier to use - and I still definitely have to practice my flicks - what was so disappointing was the colour. Is carbon black the most black colour? Once it dried, it looked grey and by the end of the day, it looked awful!

3. Collection nail varnish - Almost Nude 10 & Rimmel London 498 Rain Rain Go Away

In an attempt to not bite my nails, I bought some nail varnish, which I never ever do. I decided to start with a nude an ease myself into brighter colours. This one by Collection is great - the colour is very nude, but you can tell that you have it on (if you get what I mean!). The good thing about nudes is that it also doesn't matter if you get it all over your skin, it just blends in. Perfect for a nail varnish beginner like me. And, I'm happy to say that I've not bitten my nails for about 2 weeks, and they are looking great! I am not used to having nails that make a noise on the keyboard!

4. Seventeen "On the Spot" foundation

I've been having a lot of trouble with my skin for months. I was looking for a new foundation, and stumbled across this. It has satalyic acid, something to help fight spots whilst you're wearing it. Sounds good right? The foundation is okay. It's quite drying and hard to blend. I also had way to much trouble finding the right shade and have ended up with one that is too dark (story of my life). Maybe I'll get more wear out of it in the summer.

5. L'occitane Perfume

I picked this up in the L'occitane sale. It is a sweet summery fragrance and I think it is absolutely beautiful. I am wearing this on a daily basis, making life a little bit sweeter.

  1. I'm also looking for a BB cream too (and for the same reasons you are) so I don't think rimmel's will be the right one for me. I do want to try that L'occitane perfume!
