Favourite Instagram accounts

I have been absolutely loving instagram recently. I have a personal one and one for the blog, and since I got an ipod touch for Christmas (where the editing features are amazingly better than my windows phone), I've been finding myself looking for more and more instagram inspiration.

Whilst I still have a long long way to go (I'm not sure that I'll ever produce wonderful photos!), I'm keen to keep snapping away. So here are a few favourites of mine:

Jemma's instagram is so beautiful and always updated Her photos make me very jealous of her Tsum Tsum collection and of her drawing skills!

Rhianna's instagram is just fabulous! Her selfies give me major eyeliner envy (seriously, how do you do it?!) and her pictures are stunning.

Just another beautiful instagram. Becky's immaculate white home creates the most beautiful pastel pictures. Her instagrams of her dog Oscar are my favourite though - so cute!

I have only started reading Carrie's blog recently, but her instagram shots are to die for. I must definitely have a thing about instagram accounts with dogs on! Whether its fashion, beauty or a starbucks cup, I'll like them every time.

I love Sophie's blog and her instagram! Her photos are so crisp and clean (is it weird to describe photos as clean?), Her selfie game is strong and I love her fashion sense so much.

Do you have any other instagram accounts I should check out?

Collection #FacetheDay Palette

I am such a noob when it comes to make up. I have followed and watched dozens of beauty bloggers after last few years, but am still no where near better with my make up skills. I also have very little makeup. My usual make up is concealer, powder and mascara - eyeliner if you're lucky.

I have quite a few parties and gatherings over the coming festive weeks, and I thought enough is enough. I should take the plunge and experiment more with my make up and hopefully it will become a more permanent thing. In desperation, I headed down to Boots one rainy morning and found that all Collection make up was under £4. With this, I stocked up on some Lasting Perfection Concealer and found this palette. On offer for £3.99, I knew I had to snap it up, as buying all the bits separately would cost me a lot more.

The #FaceTheDay palette contains a Highlighter, Bronzer, Blusher and 4 eyeshadows, which I think it amazing value. I'm not going to pretend to know much about them, only to comment that it is everything that I kind of needed! This is the ultimate lazy girl makeup palette, one item, job done.
The palette also has a little guide on the back of the best way to use it, which is especially helpful with applying the eye-shadows.

If anything, snap it up for the price at the moment from Boots. I believe it usually retails at £6.99. I'm looking forward to using this over the festive period - maybe it will help me be a bit better at doing my make up!

2016 Blogging Goals

I can't believe that it is getting to that time where we start making resolutions again. As I am planning to get more serious about stepping up my blogging game, I thought I would set myself some goals for the new year. Let's see if this works!

The main thing that will happen in 2016 with this blog is a complete rebrand. I think I have hated the name Another Student Blog about a day after I created this blog - and seriously, who thought it was a good idea to have such a long url. Hating my 2014 self!

So, I've bought a domain name for the first time in my life and currently sorting out themes, headers and other bits and bobs. Whilst going into my last two terms of uni, it probably isn't the best time to start focussing on my blog, but I am so excited - so watch this space!

Whilst I know numbers aren't everything, I would also love to increase my readership and views in 2016:

Reach 1000 Bloglovin followers

Reach 1500 Twitter Followers

Reach 200 Instagram Followers

I also have a few general blogging goals

Post more frequently

Take more photos and get better with editing them

Make sure I schedule tweets for every day

Try and participate in one blogger chat a week

Comment on more blogs

Let the creative juices flow

Go to a blogger event or meet some bloggers in real life

So that's it! 2016 is going to be a big year, not only for this blog, but for my life. Thank you for coming along on the ride with me, and I can't wait to spend another year with you all.

Also, if anyone has any advice about rebranding, please let me know!

What to watch on Netflix this Christmas

IT'S LESS THAN A WEEK UNTIL CHRISTMAS!! This is absolutely crazy. I swear I say this in every blog post, but this year has gone incredibly fast!

I don't know about you, but when I am back from uni for Christmas, I pretty much don't do anything apart from visiting family, occasionally seeing friends, and of course watching a whole bunch of TV. So I have put together a little list of things that I am currently watching on Netflix over the festive period

1. The Santa Claus

An absolute Christmas classic. I have always loved this film and have had a few watches on Netflix already this Christmas. I will never get over how cute Charlie is throughout the entire thing.

2. How I met your Mother

It's only been on Netflix for the past week or so, but I have started from the beginning and flicking it on when I need some background music when I am cooking, cleaning or getting ready. I forgot how much I am in love with Ted.

3. Extras

I have just finished Extras after watching it for the last few weeks and I absolutely LOVED it! It definitely is British Comedy at it's finest, with great guest stars and Barry from Eastenders, what's not to love. The Christmas special was so sad to watch, but Maggie is definitely my spirit animal. Her lines are hilarious.

4. A Royal Christmas

So this is one of those cheesy American straight to TV holiday movies, with non other than Gretchen Weiners (so fetch) whose boyfriend turns out to be the prince of a European country. Of course it involves a training montage of her learning how to act in a royal setting and a strict mother who wants him to marry a royal, so no points for originality. It's predictable, cheesy and ridiculous, but hey, I'm a sucker for rubbish Christmas movies.

5. Chalet Girl

Ed Westwick being British for once. That is all.

Do you have any recommendations for me? What are you watching this Christmas?

Term 1 Round up

I can't believe that I am now a third way through my last year of university. Seriously, where has the time gone? It only seems like yesterday that I came home from my first term of university and cried because I was sitting on a comfy sofa watching TV - yeah, I was even more emotional than I am now back then. But two years on, the familiar feeling of coming home still feels a little magical.

Term 1 has been interesting. Starting with the not so good, without going into too much detail, I don't think that I have had a day in 11 weeks that I haven't been worried about something, mainly to do with my health. It's absolutely exhausting. I have taken the decision to start counselling again, so will be starting that when I go back after Christmas. Fingers crossed things get better. I am determined that 2016 will be my year.

But moving onto better things, my housemates are the most wonderful beings in the world. They've dealt with my passive aggressive whatsapp messages when the house gets dirty, my incredibly bad moods and crying spells. Additionally, they are just lovely people and they make me everyday want to be a better person.

My course is going okay - all deadlines have been met and I have never turned up to a seminar unprepared, so I am counting that as a win in my books. I had my first assignment for a module outside my course due, so I am very very worried about the outcome of that - I am majorly worried that I have messed up my referencing so they think that I have plagiarised (which I obviously would never ever do), so every time I get am e-mail, I have a little panic. I only have one essay to do over Christmas, so that is also really nice.

In terms of extra things, the last few weeks have been great. Whilst singing in a choir and volunteering at a local theatre company are going swimmingly, I went to the BBC Music Awards (and saw One Direction may I add), Birmingham Christmas Market, tried sushi for the first time, saw Fireworks and Kenilworth Castle and had the best 21st birthday ever.

As many finalists, I am still worrying about graduate jobs. I have applied for some schemes, that have come back that I have either failed their tests (damn maths tests) or just simply that I haven't heard anything from them. I'm at a bit of a limbo stage at the moment, not knowing where or what I will be doing in 6 months time. But I suppose that's all the fun of life isn't it? As one door shuts, another opens. Well it has six months to do so.

Last minute Student Gift Guide 2015

Christmas is just around the corner and if like me you have left all of your Christmas present buying to the last minute, here is a quick guide for the fellow students in your life!
These quick ideas are not only pretty cheap, but would also be so useful, and I am always up for buying presents that people will actually use. Whilst I have made quite a few of my presents for my friends, these are also some really cute ideas, plus things that I have totally asked for for Christmas!

I am very new to the Adult Colouring phase. My mum has been banging on about them for months, and I finally got one the other day. I am totally obsessed. I love sitting down to do it and it makes me forget about all the essay stress. I think these would be perfect gifts!

It makes me really sad that no one writes in diaries any more. Paperchase have some beautiful ones in at the moment, they are super cute and make me feel more organised and adult than I actually am!

Wireless headphones are also the best creation ever. Although they need charging up, I cannot deal with the wire stress that gets caught whilst carrying all my bags on the bus. These are a must have, plus they don't get all tangled up miraculously - winning!

As the new law was passed in October about charging for plastic bags, I have vowed never ever to pay 5p for a bag again. Why not get your friend a fold away bag for them to keep in their larger bags just in case you have an unexpected chocolate food shop on your way home from uni?

Finally, a student cookbook, because you seriously can never have too much of these! Even in my last year of uni, I am still trying to find new dinners and recipes as I pretty much live of curry and spaghetti these days!

Hopefully this has given you a few ideas of last minute Christmas presents!

Student Money Saving Tips

It's getting to the last week of term, your bank account is looking a little worse for wear as you wait for the next student loan to come in January -  but you've still got to travel home and Christmas presents to buy. Nightmare!

I will be making full advantage of my last year being able to use my student card to get money off my Christmas presents, it will be a sad day when I can't use it any more! My railcard however is something that I will definitely renew and it is perfect for when I travel home, and they last until you are 25. Good thing I still have 4 years of use!

Having an NUS Extra card is also so useful - although it gives many of the same discounts for your normal student card, it also gives money off in restaurants, Co-op and even Amazon - so if you don't have one already, it is definitely worth checking out! Although I was always certain that I would never pay for Spotify, they are currently running an offer to have 3 months of premium for 99p. It seemed too good to miss!

TransPennine Express have put together this great infographic for ways for students to save money, which will be especially useful in the Christmas period - maybe try some of them out next term?!
