10 Weeks of Fitness

This term I joined the gym. It was a big step, and something I had never done before. I had always been one of those people who stayed away from exercise as I never found a sport I liked. I have now been going to the gym for 10 weeks.

Exercise is a great stress buster. I joined in the dreaded term 3, known for it's awful deadlines and exam stress. Whenever I was feeling a bit deflated or bored of revision, I would head to the gym for an hour and come back ready to do some more work. It got me out of the house when I needed it most, and didn't make me so guilty about eating a whole load of revision snacks.

Additionally, it made me feel really good about myself. The classic Legally Blonde line endorphins making people happy is kind of true. I would just feel really good, I don't really know how to explain it. And, buying sports gear is so much fun

I never once felt self-conscious at the gym, something I was really nervous about. Everyone, including myself, is just in the flow of their exercise routine, and if people are looking at you, they are often wondering what technique or equipment you are using and if they can try that too.

Now the question: Have I lost any weight? Honestly, I don't know. I didn't go in with the aim to lose weight, I'm not even sure how much I weigh. It's not something that I looked at religiously. I still eat the same diet, so I don't think that much has changed. I have however noticed that my fitness levels are higher than they were before and whilst I am at home for the summer, I will be looking for some running routes, Zumba classes and home workouts that I can do in my tiny bedroom until I can join again next university year. Maybe then I will start looking more at toning up and losing weight, but for now, I'm so glad that I have done it. It has taught me that exercising can be fun, and can so easily go into your daily routine.
